The Dark Night Queen

A heart-piercing pain struck, and the Man in Black almost instinctively dodged the fatal stab aimed at his back.

The blade grazed his neck, blood splattered, and although his instinct was to counterattack, the sight before him chilled him to the bone.

“What is this thing?!”

Behind him, under the moonlight’s veil, stood a petite figure with violet-red hair like snow and cold eyes glimmering with a strange light, wielding a blade that radiated an icy intent to kill.

On her forehead and cheeks were three faint violet-red lines, and her whole being exuded a sinister aura.

This was not an Awakener!

The essence of Primal Force was unmistakable to the Man in Black… Noticing the small pointed canines at the corners of the girl’s mouth, he instantly understood.

This was… an Infector!

This kid had been hiding an Infector by his side!

Recognizing the clothing, he realized that this was none other than Xiao Chen’s sister!

The rapid loss of blood made his head spin, but fear had already filled his heart. He struggled to push Xiao Chen away, clutching his wound, trying to leap to the rooftop, to escape this place!

He didn’t engage Mu Xiaowan because the deep-seated fear of Infectors, seemingly engraved in his genes, dominated him at this critical moment of injury; his only thought was to flee.

“Keep him here.”

Xiao Chen, pressing against his bleeding wound, leaned against the wall, his vision blurring.

Mu Xiaowan, still expressionless, suddenly moved and chased after the Man in Black. Her blade kept inflicting wounds on him, but in his state of desperation to escape, he paid them no heed.

Though severely injured, the physical enhancement from his high Primal Force was still at play. Just as he was about to successfully leap onto the rooftop, a sense of urgency flickered in Mu Xiaowan’s enchanting eyes.

A strange sensation surged through her body as she watched the blood floating in the air. Suddenly, Mu Xiaowan felt as if something extra had entered her being.

She managed to grasp the Man in Black’s arm just in time, and as the bloodline followed the wound on his neck to his arm, it touched Mu Xiaowan’s small hand.

Buzz!

Instinctively, Mu Xiaowan activated the technique she had just comprehended.

Blood pooled like a tiny stream, and Mu Xiaowan’s hand acted like a pump, causing the Man in Black’s blood to gush from the wound on his neck like a dam had burst!

Streams of blood transformed into specks of red light, purified by Mu Xiaowan into energy that surged into her body.

“Infection…”

The Man in Black’s eyes gradually lost focus, and his body fell lifelessly to the ground, amidst the weeds and trash.

“Cough, cough.”

Xiao Chen, seeing this scene, finally felt his heart settle. Mu Xiaowan’s hair slowly faded back to its malnourished look, but now her face was streaked with tears.

“Brother, hang on, I’ll take you to the hospital.”

She ran over and helped Xiao Chen up with her slender, frail arms.

No one could associate her with the merciless shadow that had just been killing without blinking.

“I’m fine.”

Xiao Chen took out some gauze, bandaged his wound, and swallowed a Primal Force Pill, feeling some strength return to his body.

He looked at the anxious Mu Xiaowan, deep in thought.

“What’s wrong?”

Mu Xiaowan was a bit lost, sensing unease in Xiao Chen’s gaze. The memories from after her transformation would not be erased; they only altered her personality during those moments.

She vividly remembered draining someone’s blood…

“Brother, so I really am an Infector, right?”

She lowered her head. Although Xiao Chen had always instilled in her that she was just like anyone else, a normal person who would surely fear sunlight and struggle to resist the urge to eat people, she was growing more aware that she was indeed different from normal people.

“Have you ever heard of an Infector with awakening skills?”

Xiao Chen’s question caught Mu Xiaowan off guard.

“Awakening?”

“That’s right, that move you just used, it was an awakening skill. Who would have thought my sister is one in a million, a genius awakened so early. Or did you awaken earlier and just didn’t tell me?”

Seeing the relief and pride in Xiao Chen’s eyes, Mu Xiaowan also felt a bit bashful.

“N-no, it was just… I was so worried, and then suddenly I knew how to do it.”

“That’s exactly it, this is what awakening is.”

Seeing the certainty on Xiao Chen’s face, Mu Xiaowan wasn’t sure if he was just comforting her.

“Alright, why dwell on this? Help me over there.”

Xiao Chen patted Mu Xiaowan’s head, and she let out a silly giggle, rarely praised by Xiao Chen in this way; it made her feel a bit dizzy with happiness for the first time.

The green crystal slowly appeared, and Xiao Chen walked over to pick it up.

“Duan Xu, an elite assassin just a hair’s breadth from awakening, bled to death and was killed by a twelve-year-old girl. He harbored a massive secret in his heart, a pity he never had the chance to reveal it.”

The information of the deceased appeared in his mind.

………………………

“The smell of blood?”

At the entrance to the slum, Liu Zhenhai was hurrying to Xiao Chen’s home with Chu Hongxiu.

He had just called Xiao Chen, but the call didn’t go through. He knew that Xiao Chen wouldn’t contact him over trivial matters, and now that he was unreachable, Liu Zhenhai had decided to check on him personally.

Unexpectedly, just upon arriving, he and Chu Hongxiu noticed something unusual. Following the sound, they saw a Man in Black lying at Lin Xudong’s feet, his limbs all twisted.

“Xudong, what are you doing here? Who is this guy?”

“Zhenhai?”

Lin Xudong, currently the martial arts instructor of the Jiang City Armed Police Detachment, knew Liu Zhenhai through work, and the two had a good relationship. Seeing Liu Zhenhai, he was immediately relieved.

“You know Xiao Chen, right? Hurry, follow this direction to find him, someone’s trying to kill him!”

“There’s no time to explain, two people came after him; even if the other isn’t an awakener, he’s not far off. Wait any longer and you’ll be collecting his corpse.”

Previously, Lin Xudong had a brief encounter with the Man in Black and wanted to detain him, but the man was incredibly fast. Coupled with another awakener holding him back, he failed.

“Alright.”

Liu Zhenhai suppressed the urgency in his heart and, pulling Chu Hongxiu along, prepared to search in the direction Lin Xudong pointed.

The Man in Black, who had been taken down by Lin Xudong and had his hands tied behind his back, just sneered upon hearing this.

Ten minutes had passed since the fight began. If that guy hasn’t killed Xiao Chen by now, he might as well bang his head against the wall.

Just as they were about to leave, Chu Hongxiu froze, pointing in one direction with slightly parted red lips.

“Look.”

At the mouth of the alley, a blood-covered young man was slowly walking towards them, holding a little girl’s hand.

In his hand, he also carried a human head.

“Xiao Chen?”

“How is this possible?”

The Man in Black lying on the ground shivered, his eyes filled with shock and confusion as he looked at Xiao Chen.

He knew Duan Xu’s strength well; he had assassinated real awakeners. Wasn’t this kid still in school?!

And yet, he had killed Duan Xu!

“Good lad.”

Lin Xudong’s expression also changed. He realized he had completely misunderstood this student.

He wasn’t the sensitive, inexperienced kid he thought he was, but a shrewd and ruthless man.

“Xiao Chen, you’re hurt, I’ll take you to the hospital.”

Chu Hongxiu was the first to run over, her heart aching at the sight of their disheveled appearance.

“No rush, Brother Liu. First, I have a question for you. Do you know someone named Su Yu, and what is his relationship with Zheng Tianhao?”
